On the 6th, Toyota Automotive intends to reduce production by closing all 12 nationwide plants for 11 days during the months of Feburary and March. Due to the worldwide economic slowdown and slumping sales, it will decrease it's production stockpile by trimming manufacturing. Toyota Automotive Kyushu said; "We will comply with Toyota's aims", signaling the possiblity of further production cuts across the entire enterprise.
The Targets are 4 body asssembly plants and 8 accessory and part plants, both in the Chuubu prefecture. Plants will be closed during Feburary 5th, 6th, 13th and 20th which are weekdays and the 14th and 21st which are Saturdays. In March, they will be closed the weekdays of the 2nd and 13th and the Saturdays of the 14th and 21st. They will also be closed the 20th, which falls on a national holiday but was scheduled to be open.
In the month of November, Toyota Goods Sales stood at 8,240,000 units, down 800,000 compared with the month of May. Including the sales of Toyota brand and luxury brand cars (i.e. Lexus), the company will reduce worldwide production of 7,920,000 by 950,000 units. However with the economic crisis is worsening, the company announced in December that they will be forced to even further reduce production by 70,000 units.
In January, with the exception of Parts Manufacturor Teihou Factory, the 11 plants will close for 3 days. Toyota Automotive, including it's Kyushu branch is beginning to enforce the measure.
