In Beer Sales, Suntory Beer for the first time over came Sapporo Beer, ranking 3rd in overall market share.
This is the first time the beer has reached 3rd place since it entered the marketplace in 1963. The producing firm also reached profitability for the first time.
Regarding the previous year's sale achievements, Suntory increased sales by 9.3% or 59,590,000 cases (1 case=20 large bottles) for a large spike.
Until September of 2008, It was the only one of the 4 major canned good firms to not mark up price, a cost cutting measure to accommodate consumer demand. On the other hand, Premium Beer, The Premium Malt becoming more exclusive, it has caused a certain "bi polarization" amongst consumers of high grade commodities.
In contrast, Sapporo fell 8.5% or 56,300,000 cases. Asahi and Kirin Beers announced their sales records in September but Asahi looks to maintain it's number one spot.
