In President Elect Obama's weekly radio address on the 3rd, he said that "If immediate and urgent actions are not taken, the economy will continue to weaken and we will only face heightened unemployment in the 2nd quarter." He underscored his yet unimplemented economic recovery and reinvestment plan.

On the 5th, Mr. Obama met with Democratic and Republican party leaders in order to work out his economic recovery plan. The plan which approached the staggering sum of $800,000,000,000, including tax cuts is said to "not only create jobs in the short term but also fortify economic and competitive growth in the long term."

Important points mentioned were;
1. To double renewable energy production
2. To strengthen public utilities such as roads and highways
3. Accelerating the computerization of the health care system

Mr. Obama and Democrats aim to implement the economic measure, thought to create 3,000,000 new jobs, immediately following the new administration's opening on the 20th. However, Republicans anxious about the exploding budget deficit urge caution on the enormous economic measure. From the inaugural week's opening, deliberation would begin at full force.
